Note: Please note that the data canter only official supports the Microsoft Outlook e-mail client. Other e-mail programs must be used and supported independently.

This guide will take you through setting up the Evolution mail client and show you how to use it to access the 911±¬ÁÏÍøBAF Exchange mail server. It also explains how you can subscribe to additional calendars of other people.

Step 1: Install the necessary software

Please make sure that the following packages are installed:

Mandatory packages (for email and calendar):

  • evolution
  • evolution-ews

Optional packages (for spell checking):

  • enchant
  • hunspell-de (German spelling)
  • hunspell-en_us (English spelling)

You can download these packages e.g. via your package manager (APP). e.g. via your package manager (APT, DNF, etc.).

Step 2: Set up Exchange account in Evolution

Start Evolution and perform the following steps to set up your 911±¬ÁÏÍøBAF Exchange account:

  1. Open Evolution.
  2. Navigate via the menu path: File → New → Email account → Next.
  3. Enter your name and your 911±¬ÁÏÍøBAF email address → Next.
  4. Select the server type: Exchange web services.
  5. Check under Legitimisation that NTLM is selected.
  6. Click on "Get address".
    • Important: Please enter the username in the format benutzerkennung [at] adds [dot] tu-freiberg [dot] de.
    • Confirm with OK.
  7. Make individual settings if required and complete the setup.

Step 3 (optional): Add more calendars

Start Evolution and perform the following steps to set up additional 911±¬ÁÏÍøBAF Exchange calendars:

  1. Switch to the "Email" view in Evolution.
  2. Right-click on your 911±¬ÁÏÍø Exchange account.
  3. Select: "Subscribe to another user's folder ..."
  4. Click on "Select":
    • Look for the user ID of the person you want.
    • Select the result → OK.
    • Under "Folder name": Select Calendar → OK.

The calendar will now appear in your calendar view, provided you have the appropriate access rights.
